Drika Overton
Tap and percussive dancer Drika Overton is a performer, producer, teacher and
choreographer. She has studied and performed with many of the legendary tap
artists of our time, incorporating her "loose-limbed grandeur" into diverse
musical and dance styles and traditions. She is the creator of the
Portsmouth Percussive Dance Festival
and has produced numerous events celebrating
America's percussive dance: tap. Recipient of an Individual Artist Fellowship
from the NH State Council on the Arts, and listed on the Maine, New Hampshire
and New England artist rosters, Drika has been featured at the Rhythm
Explosion Tap Festival in Bozeman, MT, on NH Public Television, First Night
Portsmouth celebrations, Portsmouth Jazz Festival, Maine Arts Festival, Bates
Dance Festival, and Liz Lerman's Dance Exchanges' Shipyard Project. Currently
on the faculty of the Theatre/Dance Department of the University of NH, she
also teaches classes throughout the region.
